The Da Vinci Code
I finished The Da Vinci Code this morning. As Rik said, it improves a lot at around page 115 and actually manages to be quite gripping, although with a few caveats. First of all, I spotted a number of the plot twists a mile away. The identity of "The Teacher" became obvious around 200 pages before he was officially revealed, as did the secret ancestry of another character that I won't reveal here for fear of spoiling it for others. I would definitely recommend reading this book if you haven't already done so, and I would also encourage readers to stick with it even if the first 100 or so pages seem pretty uninvolving.I might check out some of Dan Brown's other work - for all his failings as a writer of prose, he seems to know how to spin an involving yarn.

I'll probably give it a look. That probably won't be time soon, since I have a lot of other shit to read.
As well, like eating a foreign food for the first time, a mystery novel's going to take me a lot of preparation for me to get into.
