The same source seems to have been used for both transfers. The UK version shows more detail and film grain, but also suffers from more compression artefacts at times, especially during shot transitions (see Examples 1 and 5 especially). The big problem with the UK release, however, is that it has very large, unattractive, burnt-in subtitles throughout. Still, this is the only version of the film to provide support for English speakers, so it seems that we'll have to make do with it.
The UK release dumps the audio commentary and trailer but gains a couple of featurettes (plus English subtitles). Take your pick, but personally I would have preferred a subtitled commentary.
