The old R2 UK release (labelled as "remastered" but actually featuring the same transfer as the earlier bare-bones release) has some of the worst edge enhancement I've ever seen. If you watch this DVD and don't get what EE is, then you must have the tolerance of a saint. In that respect, the new R1 disc is much better, although it's also incredibly soft - so soft, at times, that it starts to smudge. There are some differences in framing - generally, the UK release shows slightly more image at the top and sides - but they are fairly negligible.
Otherwise, there are no real differences. The R1 contains fewer deleted scenes, but this is because those that are absent have been integrated into the film itself. Regarding the two cuts, there's not a great deal of narrative difference between the two. It simply amounts to a few deleted scenes being thrown in to justify a re-release. Bottom line: pick the disc up for the slightly improved transfer, not for some sort of revelatory new cut of the film.
